Patton Tunstall

VFX Supervisor & Founder, Whammy FX

Patton’s VFX obsession started with countless hours glued to StarCraft and Diablo cutscenes as a kid in Louisiana. Armed with animation programs snagged off Napster, he taught himself the basics while his friends were busy doing… well, whatever normal kids did.

He landed his first gig as an architectural viz artist while still in high school (because who needs prom when you can render buildings?), then headed to Full Sail University to make his animation and film dreams official.

Back in Louisiana, Patton worked his magic on some pretty cool projects—turning Star Wars Episode I into 3D, adding visual pizzazz to 21 Jump Street, and bending reality in Looper. A girl caught his eye and lured him to Dallas, where he spent nearly a decade running ReelFX’s commercial department.

In 2021, Patton decided the world needed more Whammy in it and launched Whammy FX, building ridiculously powerful data center hardware and software for VFX production. They’ve been swamped with work ever since—turns out people really dig what they’re doing!
